The vast majority of maternal deaths are avoidable. The presence of a trained health-care worker during delivery is crucial in reducing maternal deaths.
We are a team of Ob/Gyns from the San Francisco Bay Area who use evidence-based education and simulation-based training to teach physicians, medical residents, and students how to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Central America through two training curriculums: GO MOMS and GO GYNS.
Through GO MOMS and GO GYNS, we train educators and physicians in low-resource environments to implement and sustain simulation-based training (SBT) programs for obstetrical and gynecological complications. Both of our programs incorporate advanced simulation components:
Obstetrics: GO MOMS (Global Outreach- Mobile Obstetrics Medical Simulation) focuses on postpartum hemorrhage management, active management of the third stage of labor, preeclampsia/eclampsia management, shoulder dystocia, maternal cardiac arrest and in situ labor and delivery simulation.
Gynecology: GO GYNS (Global Outreach- Gyn Surgery) focuses on long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC), vaginal hysterectomy, and pessary treatment for uterine prolapse.
