Historically, the majority of support for improving maternal health in the developing world has targeted pre-hospital providers of care (i.e. birth attendants and midwives). Few endeavors have directly focused on training future physicians in low-resource settings. We aim to fill this gap feasibly and sustainably.

Our US-based physicians visit teaching hospitals in Central America to provide training to faculty and their residents and students. Our GO MOMS training package focuses on obstetrical care and our GO GYNS training package focuses on gynecologic surgery. Both curriculums are designed to engage learners in practical applications of life-saving treatments by using a simulation-based approach. We have found that our method results in more confident physicians who are better prepared to provide critical care to women.
